1What is it?
Proof of address is a document, usually less than three months old, that links your name or business name to a physical address. It is a FICA requirement for banking and a core part of provider verification.
2Who needs it?
- Every provider completing FIX IT verification
- Anyone opening a bank account or registering with SARS
- Companies confirming a registered business address
3Who doesn't need it?
- Nobody — every verified provider must have a current proof of address on file.
4Registration categories
Utility bill
Municipal rates, water, electricity — the strongest form.
Bank or financial statement
Issued by a registered institution, showing your address.
Lease agreement
Signed lease plus the landlord's own proof of address.
Sworn affidavit
Where the address is not in your name — co-signed by the account holder.
5Why is it important?
Proof of address is how we confirm a provider is a real, locatable business. It underpins dispatch coverage areas, fraud prevention and the customer's confidence that someone is accountable.

14Frequently asked questions
My bills are in my landlord's name. What do I do?
Upload the landlord's bill together with a sworn affidavit from them confirming you live or trade at that address.
Can I use a cellphone bill?
Generally no. Prepaid and mobile statements are commonly rejected. Use a municipal or bank document.
Does the address have to be where I work from?
It must be your genuine base. Your dispatch coverage area is set separately in the Business Centre.
15How FIX IT verifies this
- Our reviewer checks the document type, issue date and that the name matches your verified identity.
- Documents older than three months at review are declined with the reason recorded.
- Affidavits are accepted only with the account holder's supporting document attached.
- Approval records the verified address on your provider profile and the review is logged with reviewer and timestamp.
