1What is it?
The South African Qualification and Certification Committee for Gas registers authorised gas practitioners. Only a registered practitioner may install, service or certify LP gas installations and issue a Certificate of Conformity.

5Why is it important?
Gas installations carry fire and explosion risk. Insurers require a valid Certificate of Conformity issued by a registered practitioner, and unregistered gas work is both illegal and uninsurable.

Can a plumber install a gas geyser?
Only if they are also a registered gas practitioner in the appropriate category.
Is a Certificate of Conformity the same as a plumbing CoC?
No. Gas installations require a separate gas Certificate of Conformity.
Do I need it for a portable heater?
Not for simply using a portable appliance, but any fixed installation or pipework does require a registered practitioner.
